Content sources#
| Source | License / Terms |
|---|---|
| Quran text (Arabic, Uthmani script) | The text of the Qur'an is public domain. The Unicode edition bundled in the app is the Tanzil Project Uthmani text, used unmodified under CC BY 3.0. © Tanzil Project. |
| Quran translations — QuranEnc.com editions | Modern reviewed translations in 28 languages (Saheeh International / Noor International, Rowwad Translation Center, Bubenheim & Elyas, and others — the edition name and version are shown under the text in the reader) are fetched at read time from QuranEnc.com (Quran Encyclopedia, Rowwad Translation Center) and cached on the device, under QuranEnc's published republishing terms: the text is unmodified, QuranEnc.com is credited, the version is shown and the translators' footnotes are kept. © the respective translators / publishers. |
| Quran translations — bundled public-domain editions | Pickthall (1930), Kazimirski (1869), García Bravo (1907), Calza (1847) with Bonelli (1929), Keyzer (1860), Buczacki (1858), Sablukov (1878), Zetterstéen (1917), Junagarhi, and Tafsir al-Jalalayn — all public domain, bundled in the app; see legal/TRANSLATION_CLEARANCE.md. |
| Quran recitation audio | Streamed through Rawha's server from Quran Foundation (quran.com / quranicaudio.com), under the Quran Foundation Developer Terms (Quran data provided by Quran Foundation), and from mp3quran.net, which permits developers to use its recitation links. Recordings are never bundled, copied or redistributed, and can be switched off per reciter. 18 reciters: Mishary Rashid Alafasy, Abdur-Rahman As-Sudais, Saud Ash-Shuraim, Yasser Ad-Dussary, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary (also his teaching recitation), AbdulBaset AbdulSamad (murattal and mujawwad), Mohamed Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Abu Bakr Ash-Shatri, Hani Ar-Rifai, Maher Al-Muaiqly, Saad Al-Ghamdi, Ahmad Al-Ajmi, Nasser Al-Qatami, Abdullah Al-Juhany, Bandar Baleela, Muhammad Ayyub, Idris Abkar and Fares Abbad. The reciter and source are credited wherever audio plays. Each recording remains © its reciter / rights holder. |
| Translations | All bundled translations are public domain (each translator died 70+ years ago, or the edition was published before 1900) — no copyrighted translation is redistributed: English = Pickthall (d. 1936); Arabic (Tafsīr al-Jalālayn) = al-Maḥallī (d. 1459) & al-Suyūṭī (d. 1505); Spanish = Joaquín García Bravo (d. 1922, 1907 ed.); French = Kazimirski (d. 1887, with Savary (d. 1788) for As-Ṣāffāt 115–120); Italian = Vincenzo Calza (1847 ed.), with Luigi Bonelli (d. 1947, 1929 ed.) supplying verses damaged in the Calza scan; Dutch = Keyzer (d. 1868); Polish = Buczacki (1858 ed.); Russian = Sablukov (d. 1880); Swedish = Zetterstéen (d. 1953, PD in Sweden since 2024); Urdu = Junagarhi (d. 1941). No Turkish edition is bundled: the text previously shipped was a 1990s modernised ("sadeleştirilmiş") edition of Elmalılı — a derivative work that is still under copyright — not his public-domain 1935 original, so it was withdrawn. Turkish readers get the modern QuranEnc.com editions listed above. The Spanish, French, Italian, Polish and Swedish editions are aligned to the app's Ḥafṣ verse layout (Spanish, French, Italian and Swedish are complete; Italian's Calza scan-damage was filled verse-for-verse from the Bonelli edition). Two verses — Polish 14:50 and 18:3, which the Buczacki edition (the only public-domain Polish Qur'an) omits outright — have no public-domain Polish source and fall back to the English (Pickthall) text rather than being invented. Source digitizations: Polish (Buczacki) transcribed from Polish Wikisource (transcription layer CC BY-SA 4.0); Swedish (Zetterstéen) from Project Runeberg; Spanish/French/Italian from public-domain scans on the Internet Archive. |
| Adhān (call to prayer) audio | Not bundled in the app — downloaded once from Wikimedia Commons on first use, then cached on the device. Default adhān: "Beautiful adhan.ogg" by Adam‑synagda, released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Fajr adhān: "Adhan wiki.oga" by Jarih, licensed under CC BY‑SA 3.0; used unchanged. Both are the uploaders' own recordings ("Own work"). |
| Mosque finder data | Mosque locations come from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API (public mirrors overpass-api.de, overpass.kumi.systems and overpass.private.coffee). © OpenStreetMap contributors, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Map tiles in the iOS map view are provided by Apple Maps. |
| Hadith collections | Public sources (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, etc.) referenced via Sunnah.com. |
| Prayer times & Hijri dates | Aladhan API plus on-device calculation. |
| Zakat prices | Gold and silver spot prices from gold-api.com and exchange rates from open.er-api.com, used under their published free-tier terms. |
| Du'a / Adhkar texts | Arabic drawn directly from the Qur'an and Sunnah (public domain), each cited to its primary source (Sahih Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, etc.). Translations are our own renderings, not reproduced from any copyrighted compilation. |
